ELEVEN GEESE


After i drew them/ the flock flew fast from my open hand/ honking through Autumn/ while i wondered what they might be saying/ i traced their echoes/ through mid-air/ while the night's setting/ sun turned our whole sky pink/ where beaks still released/ staccatoed notes/ till their long throats became faint/ and i flapped up/ following/ their disappearance
